Make sure your dolls hair is always neat. This is very important. Sometimes you can't fix fly-aways, but you should be able to fix messy hair- hopefully!

Find a good background. I like to take pictures on my deck because the trees create bokeh. But in the grass also works well.

Lighting is key. Don't take pictures in really dark places, and don't take pictures in really sunny places that cast shadows. Always make sure that their face is always bright in the photo, and that their eyes pop.
Make sure you don't have people or buildings in your photos. (unless you are meaning to have them in your photo) It is too distracting.
Taken by meAlways take lots of photos in the same place. It may look good on camera, but when you look on the computer it can be really blurry. So, make sure you take lots of pictures.
Have a nice camera. Lots of people say It's the photographer that makes the photo, but most of it actually depends on the camera. Photos will not turn out very nice with an iPad, or a computer webcam. I use the Canon EOS Rebel T5. But if that's a little too pricy for you, iPhones and the newer iPads work really well also.

You can make a homemade reflector by using cardboard and alluminum/tin foil. Just cut a square of cardboard, and wrap around the foil, then secure it with duct tape. (regular tape works fine also, just not as great)
If your parents have a camera, or you just got a new one, read the instructions before using it. It may seem a little tricky at first, but don't worry, you'll get the hang of it!

If you want some effects for your photos, go to picmonkey.com! It is a VERY useful site, and completely free!
For a blurry spot in your photo, take a leaf, or part of your reflector, or literally any object, place it a little bit above the camera. It creates a very cool effect!
I think it works really well if you place your reflector on the ground, and then put your doll on top of it.
